Red Fridays

Sent to me by a friend........

Will you give this to my Daddy?

As a Company, Southwest Airlines is going to support " Red Fridays ".

Last week I was in Atlanta , Georgia attending a conference. While I was in the airport, returning home, I heard several people behind me beginning to clap and cheer. I immediately turned around and witnessed one of the greatest acts of patriotism I have ever seen.

Moving through the terminal was a group of soldiers in their camos. As they began heading… Continue

The biggest difference Obama will make as the next U.S. President is.....

I believe that the biggest difference Obama will make as the next U.S. President is that his election to the highest office in the land will do the same thing for young African-Americans in the business and political worlds, that Jackie Robinson's appearance in Major League baseball with the Brooklyn Dodgers and earning the honor of Rookie of the Year in 1947, did for boys who loved the game of baseball, but hadn't been allowed to play the game.

It should open doors in much the same way that Te… Continue

North Texas employers answer prayer room requests

Manzur Mahmud used to hide when he prayed.

He'd duck down in his cubicle at Dallas' Texas Instruments or scramble to a friend's office to conduct two of his five daily Muslim prayers. Now the Bangladeshi engineer walks down the corridor and enters a small prayer room.

North Texas companies are increasingly making space for quiet rooms as Muslim employees play a larger role in the U.S. workplace and feel more secure about verbalizing their faith.

Meanwhile, businesses nationwide are seeing a r… Continue

Could you forget your child?

This is long, but I'm not going to apologize!

Here in Dallas, we have yet another story in the news of a child being "forgotten" and left in a locked car to die by their parent in the midst of a string of 100-105 degree days.

1-year-old Markus Anthony Lewis died Sunday afternoon after he was apparently left in the family van by accident on a day when temperatures in North Texas reached 105 degrees. It was the hottest day of the year.

The Lewis family took two cars to a local pool earlier in t… Continue

The Peeing Tree - The First Masculine Ritual

When my first boy was an infant, I had a friend with a son about four. We lived in the same apartment complex which backed up to a golf course. Late one summer afternoon as I drove in from work, I happened to see my friend and his son walking across the open green expanse toward a huge old oak tree. I parked and watched them, thinking about the day when I could walk with my own son, and teach him of the world. When they reached the tree, each unzipped his pants and proceeded to urinate on the gr… Continue

Warren, thanks for the kind words. I'm from Johnston City, but I've been friends with Billy Padgett since the mid-sixties, when we were at SIU. Thanks, also, for allowing me to use the RAMS site to, hopefully, re-connect with him. I was very much afraid that he was gone from us for good. Awfully nice to find that he hasn't. Glad you like bagpiping. Billy does too. I played them for him in his apartment in New York City. Les Lannom

Sorry about your Mom. No, I haven't heard from McCoy since the last reunion. I think he was up North somewhere.

Thanks! We'll have to catch up soon. I'm off to Pennsylvania for about a week of work, but would enjoy getting back in touch. Glad you put this thing together, and it will be fun to see who else we hear from. My cell FYI is 303-378-3377.

The missus will be tickled about the daughter comment. She is a Kentucky native, so needless to say, I had to leave the state to get a wife. We met while she was working in Mt. Vernon. Work ended up bringing us to KY. Sad to say, all we have of Dad now are the memories; he passed away about 3 1/2 years ago. Mom is still goin' strong though, and is still in Mt. Vernon. Love the site and look forward to staying in touch. Doug

HI ya buddy. My mom showed me the article from the paper just this past Sunday. Man, what a great idea. Who'd a thought with all of the wasted youth we had that you would step up with something like this. Well done my friend. I look forward to hearing from you, I'll be in touch.
