Aaron, I just thought I would say hello. You were pretty close to figuring out who I was along time ago when you made mention on a post on R/N forum about my dad and brother when I mentioned 24 and perkins. I just don't think you ever knew I existed at that time.
Hey Aaron,
Your Mom was down here at my office the other day.
I tried to show her how to get to Register News Forums.
She would get a kick out of that. She said her computer
was messed up. We went to Judys for Easter. The kids hunted eggs in the sleet and snow! I'm ready for summer!
Well, just thought I'd say Hi. Aunt Brenda
I wondered what happened to your house. I remember when your mom and dad bought the property. The house was all run down, and the yard was overgrown. Little by little your dad worked on the house until it was a nice place to live. I know what you mean about the oak trees. Probably before you moved to the neighborhood, we kids used the trees as an "invisible" net and played badminton in the street. When we saw a car coming our way, we'd get out of the way, and then resume playing once it passed. I remember a lot of playing "kick the can". We'd go through the Adams' or Irvins' trash cans and find a Hawaiian Punch can to use as home base. Somebody was "it" and everybody else would go hide. When the "it" person was away from the can looking for where everyone was hiding, someone would try to run up and kick the can before "it" could get back to the base. Also remember playing a lot of "handy over" with a basketball. We'd break up into two teams, and each team would be on different sides of a garage. We'd bounce the ball against the side of the garage and yell "pigtails", then we'd throw the ball over the garage. When we did that, the person catching the ball would lead that team around the garage and try to catch us. Ah, those were the good ol' summertime days before VCR's, DVD's, and video games!
Yes, ours was the house that sat on the alley. We always had larger cars, but I don't believe any of them were Cadillacs. Of course, the Irvins are both gone now but you are right that Mr. Irvin worked at Bolerjacks, Bordens out on Salem Road before that. The old neighborhood is in terrible condition. Our old house is rental property, and the way someone concreted the whole yard is a sight. My dad worked hard to build up the yard...brought in dirt...built up the sidewalk, concreted the front porch and put up wrought iron railing. It's just a shame. Also, all trees are gone. Is your mother still in MTV? I'm so sorry about your Aunt Glenda. I think I read in RN when she passed away. Also, where is Perry?
Aaron, you probably won't remember me but I was your next door neighbor when you lived on the corner of 20th and Lamar. I remember your mother's beauty shop being in your home, and I babysat you a couple of times. I graduated with your Aunt Glenda in 1969. We had gone to school together from Horace Mann on up. I've been gone from MTV since 1970 but I come through town several times a year. My mom is in a nursing home in St. Louis where my sister, Linda, lives. Isn't it great to be able to contact friends and acquaintances through this medium?

Good to be in the "house" with you. Great way to catch up and found out what we are doing with our lives. Just what "are" you doing these days?
